As a general rule our, most foot surgeries are performed on an out-patient basis in an Alberta Health Services (AHS) approved Surgical Center or in a Hospital. Surgical procedural costs are covered by AHS or the patient may opt for private surgery to avoid a waiting time. In many cases, if the patient chooses a private option, insurance companies will reimburse costs associated with surgery based on the individuals coverage.
Surgery for Bunion
Surgery for bunion corrects deformities and relieves pain caused by bunions. It is performed on the great toe, which is the joint between your big toe and your second toe.
Hammertoe Surgery
Hammertoe surgery involves removing this bony lump and reshaping the bones of your toes so that they are straight. It's an outpatient procedure that takes about an hour to perform.
Morton's Neuroma Surgery
Neurectomy (the removal of a Morton's Neuroma) can be performed on the top or bottom of your foot. There are pros and cons for either approach than can be discussed with Dr Leavitt or Dr Feldman.

Surgery can be an effective treatment for cases of arthritis that don’t respond to more conservative treatments, such as rest and pain medication. Arthritis surgical options range from minimally invasive procedures to total joint replacements.
Achilles Tendon Surgery
If Achilles tendon ruptures, you might hear a pop, followed by an immediate sharp pain in the back of your ankle and lower leg that is likely to affect your ability to walk properly. Surgery is often performed to repair the rupture. For many people, however, nonsurgical treatment works just as well.
Ganglion Cyst Surgery
When a ganglion cyst presses on a nerve it can be painful. And depending on its location, a ganglion cyst may restrict movement. Ganglion cyst removal is usually an outpatient procedure and may be performed under local or general anesthesia.
Peroneal Tendon Surgery
The peroneal tendons run behind the lateral malleolus to the foot. They are held in place by the (superior) peroneal retinaculum (SPR in the diagram opposite). If this retinaculum is torn as a result of injury, the tendons can pop out place, causing pain and swelling.
Ankle Stabilization Surgery
Ankle instability that does not respond to conservative treatment requires surgical care. Anatomic repair and nonanatomic repair are the two types of surgical procedures performed to treat ankle instability.
Plantar Fasciitis Surgery
The surgical option for chronic plantar fasciitis is typically to release the plantar fascia off of the heel through a small incision on the inside of your heel.
